Blank Canvas I made....

This is one of the canvas's I made a while back - while waiting to be able to paint again....What to paint on it??? Not sure- but i love it's shape.

Pyro Canvas in progress below:

Underpainting....

Paint to canvas!

 I love the buttery paint.

What to Paint?

I gave myself a goal- a project.
I used to do well at competitions- I found one in Yosemite that i think I could spread my wings doing.

It basically is a view from the roadside- A view of what you see when you go there. The canvas is shaped like the National Park Service Arrowhead shaped Icon/Logo.

What you will see here is my progress on this painting. Here is a photo of the sketch on the canvas.

What I am gonna do different this time---

I used to really dislike the edges of the canvas-- the Squared Hard edge- "The Box".

So- while I have not been painting-- I have been developing a process to created canvases of any shape

Old Tubes

These old tubes needed to be cracked open using some gripping tools-
The paint coming out of these 30 + year "cocoons" of fine oil paints is amazingly vibrant and full of life..... Just laying dormant all these years waiting....

Windsor Green...Matisson Pink- Colors or brands that dont exist anymore....

Dad's Old Oil Paints....

Dad's Old Paints....

So.... I have been holding on to these old paints of my fathers for years- They are very sentimental to me.
I used to paint long ago when i was young - It was an activity that my elderly father and I often shared.

He had a lifetime of artistic experience and I was just beginning...but I seemed to grow up learning to "see" the world in an artistic eye -  by watching him see & express it- through his art.

I decided to go back to "Painting" a few months back- Mostly because I have "more time", now that my girls are grown & workflow because of the poor economy has been meager. Only to find out that OIL PAINTS are very expensive now! So it looks like I will be using these precious old paints.
